Carol Silveri maintains her studio in Glenview, New York.   Her wheel thrown porcelain pieces are finished with exquisite crystalline glazes.   The glazes are made from combinations of zinc and basic oxides.   The pieces are fired to 2300 degrees Fahrenheit and then cooled according to a slow, precise method.   In this process, the glaze melts and collects at the center of the plate or bowl, creating an intense pool of colored glass.  Zinc oxide crystals grow in the glaze while it is molten and freeze in place as glaze cools creating complex layers of pattern and color.  The beautiful fan and flower shapes formed by the zinc crystals are never predictable.   Every piece is a unique landscape of delicately layered color and form.  Glaze colors range from vibrant blues, greens, and purples, to more earthy oranges and browns.
